Substantial - Sacrificial Lambs (The Prequel to Sacrifice)(2006)

From performing as an opening act for Slick Rick to headlining the Hyde Out Productions tour in Japan, Substantial has been making his presence felt as a strong performer in the world of hip-hop. He has proven on many occasions that he has what it takes to win emcee battles. In May of 1999 he won the Ultimate MC Battle tournament held at Rutgers University New Jersey. Substantial has also put his talents to use as an opening act for other recording artists such as Slick Rick, Brand Nubian, Beatnuts, Heltah Skeltah, and Lord Hav Mercy formerly of Flipmode Squad. But his biggest triumph as a performer was his Tour of Japan back in late 2001. Instead of opening for other acts, he was finally blessed with the opportunity to be the potential headliner that he is. Ripping up stages all throughout central and southern Japan.

His beats are up to par and his rap ability is a step beyond most of the mediocre MC's who debut today, which makes the various references to him being the "+Best Kept Secret+ since Diamond D" seem all the more apt.

Substantial - Sacrifice [2007]

Looks like the samurai of slang "Substantial " is back after a long stint of getting his ultimate "sacrifice" planned. Having been a long time heavyweight on the independent Hip-Hop scene, he returns with a well calculated and executed release that explains how much of yourself you actually give to your craft in order to be taken seriously. My standout favorites are "Ressurection of the House Party" and "That Damn Good".

Tony Stone - The Creation [2008]

Tony Stone is known as a producer. He has produced dozens of songs for a number of Christian Hip-Hop artists ranging from Braille to Cross Movement. Production is his passion, but he also is an emcee in disguise! As with his varying production styles, The Creation is an album that demonstrates his underground hip-hop style of beats and flows. This is his first solo project, and you can expect that no two Tony Stone albums will sound the same.

The Creation. Originally only released exclusively in Japan, the album is set to make its splash stateside in the coming weeks. Boasting an old-school, laid back vibe, I was amazed at Stone’s ability to deliver such simple truth in a manner I’m not accustomed to. It is a departure from the fast-paced, hard-hitting albums that Tony Stone has helped produced. I’m glad that Stone was willing to bring his own style to that kind of market. Surreal - Pardon My Dust [2008]

In the year 2006, Surreal released two records within three months of each other. One with long time friend DJ Balance titled, "Future Classic", released on the Hip Hop is Music label, owned and operated by Braille of Lightheaded. Future Classic spent five weeks at the number one spot on the College Music Journal Hip Hop charts. The other record was with a group Surreal had been a long time fan of, The Sound Providers. The True Indeed album was a landmark for Surreal. "Finding out the SP's wanted to do a whole record with me was a day I won't soon forget." The Sound Providers have been around since 1998 and have a stellar track record. They are very particular with who they work with. "Surreal's a natural, we're cut from the same cloth. He makes it look so easy. In my opinion he's one of the better songwriters of his generation," says Soulo from the Sound Providers. "True Indeed" is one of those records that will age like fine wine.
